We are Sparc
We are Sparc - Valleys Kids Youth Arts project, we use theatre and art to explore different areas of our lives, we both create our own work and collaborate with others to ignite change through the arts in our communities and beyond.
Born out of the Together Stronger partnership with the Wales Millennium Centre, this is a Festival of Voice commission led by Bethan Marlow but made from scratch by the young people and youth arts workers of Sparc. A series of creative interventions, designed to pop up around the festival, ranging in scale, form and content, each one of them exploring "power".
Want to make a difference? Join our 16+ Sparc Plus programme, we offer mentoring and support, the chance to volunteer on all aspects of Youth Theatre productions as well as creating your own projects.
Each week we run Drama Workshops in our Valleys Kids centres in Penygraig, Dinas, Rhydyfelin and Penyrenglyn for children and young people aged between 7 and 13 - see events for more details.
Sparc in Schools
Sparc works closely with our local cluster schools in all our key areas. We run arts projects in schools including film, theatre and photography to work creatively with pupils.
Afon Community Dance has always worked in collaboration with Sparc offering creative dance classes and showcasing their beautiful work at Soar Centre see calendar for details of classes.
Puddle Jump (Stories for Families)
With the support of the Arts Council of Wales’ Covid-19 Stabilisation Fund, Sparc joined forces with their Future Families Team to launch this exciting new project to support the wellbeing of children and families. Puddle Jump is a therapeutic storytelling project offering support to families in a creative and imaginative way.
What is Sparc?
We are a Youth Arts project in Rhondda Cynon Taff. We work together & learn from each other. From the moment we enter the room we begin a journey of creativity, discovery & growth.
The Sparc team is an integral part of the community development work at Valleys Kids and we work with young people in a variety of settings.
Using creative techniques the children and young people explore different areas of their lives and the lives of others in a positive way.

Sparc Love Letters
Artworks gave me a passion for drama, starting in my teenage years, and carried on into adulthood. It was the enthusiasm of the people involved and the tremendous support and encouragement that I loved the most.
Miranda wasn't just a drama teacher and youth worker, she was a mentor, a friend and an inspiration.
One of the proudest moments of my life was being given the chance to travel to Botswana to bring storytelling through drama and dance to the children at their schools. It was something that will stay with me forever. I can't imagine having that opportunity without Valleys Kids and the Artworks team.
It's such a privilege to of had the chance to be part of Artworks and hope generations for years to come are so lucky as I have been.
Love you all.
